Enter Report Here Warm days and cool nights have been the norm for us here in Boulder Junction. With daytime temps at or near 80 degrees, and night time in the low 50s. We have never had our traditional \"Dog Days\" of summer yet. The water temps in our local lakes is from 72 - 76 degrees, depending on the depth and clarity of the lake you are fishing. I have been mostly musky fishing these weeks, and musky have been fair. A lot of fish showing themselves, but reluctant to committing to strike. Mornings and evenings have been best. With fish responding to a variety of lures. Topwater in the early mornings and late evenings has been producing strikes. Lots of \"blow-ups\" with less fish actually getting hooked. Bucktails are always a good bait anytime of the year. Natural colors with gold blades, or black w/copper blade has worked best for me. One bait that has shined this past week was the Bull Dog. This time of year the fish like to suspend over rock bars and deep water. The Bull Dog is just the bait to get down to them. If you dont locate fish in the weeds, try the rock bars from 15-35 feet of water. You will be surprised when a big musky comes up out of 35ft of water. Hang on!! Walleyes - Walleye fishing has been hit or miss these days. This is often the case this time of year. But fishing is still good. Yesterday we boated 25 walleye between 14-17 inches. Not monsters, but good eaters. When the sun is out shinging high in the sky the walleye fishing has been tough. But on overcast days the bite is a lot better. Leeches have been working, but crawlers seem to be the best bait right now. A 1/16 jig and half a crawler has been the ticket. The fish are still holding on deep weed edges (green curly leaf cabbage), in 10-18 ft of water. Not every weed bed is holding fish, so move around. No fish in 10-15 min., then move. Fishing with crawlers you will also catch anything that lives in the water from bass to panfish. Bass and Panfish - These fish are going strong. With good to excellent fishing for both smallmouth and largemouth bass. The smallmouth lately have been relating to deeper rock structures. While the largemouth are on deep weed edges or in the shallow \"slop\". Like matted weeds and lilly pads. The smallmouth have preferred plastics such as Senkos, grubs, and hair jigs. Live bait is also taking smallmouth. Try rocks in the 8-15 foot range for the smallies. Largemouth have been hitting topwater and spinnerbaits in the morning, and plastics and live bait in the daytime hours. Panfish are going strong right now. Crappies are on the deep weed edges next to deep water. Small 1/32-1/16 jig and small curly tail grubs are taking crappies. Smaller fish have been shallower and taking minnow and bobber presentations. With the annual Musky Jamboree this weekend, its going to be busy in Boulder Junction, but also alot of fun. Im heading out to musky fish right now. I will post another report soon. Look forward to seeing in my boat some. Keep a tight line, and SET THE HOOK! Tom Whitman
