Fishing Report Archives Walleyes and Crappies Saturday May 17, 2008 Enter Report Here Its Saturday May 17 and has been a busy week walleye and crappie fishing. Water temps are holding at about 55 degees on the smaller lakes. And are 46-50 on the bigger lakes like Trout, White Sand, Big, etc. Fishing for walleye has been steady on the days that the winds aren\'t blowing hard (really hard lately). The walleyes are done spawning now and are starting to relate to the weeds and the wood. I good deep tree, on a fast breaking bank is a good place to look for them right now. Some lakes that dont have a lot of wood, the fish are relating to new weed growth, in 6-15 ft of water. Slip bobbers and 1/16 ounce jigs tipped with a fathead minnow or chub. I fished the Presque Isle area this weekend, and did well. I am fishing the Presque Isle Town tournament this weekend. One more day tomorrow, hopefully the wind is a little nicer to me. The water is slowly warming and that is bringing in the crappies to start staging for the spawn. You can find these fish in the warmest water you can find. Usually in the north end of the lake that you are fishing. I had my two girls out last week and we caught our share of crappies in the 8-12 inch range. These fish took crappie minnows on slip bobbers in 8 ft. of water. As the water warms the crappies will go shallower in preparation for the spawn. Well I wish you all great fishing! And look forward to have some of you in my boat this season! Tight lines, and rip some lips! Tom Whitman |
